Collection, Recycling & Disposal of Commercial and Hazardous Waste since 1989

Acetone waste collection from Beauty Salons and Nail Bars in the UK

Because acetone is highly flammable, liquid salon wastage is classified as a hazardous waste stream.

Under UK law, any business producing chemical waste holds a permanent Duty of Care.

Before any waste leaves a salon's premises, you must generate a Hazardous Waste Consignment Note.

Safe Storage of Chemicals on Premises
Keeping chemicals separate is essential.

Best Practice prior to collection.

No Mixing with Oxidizers:

Beauty Salons frequently use hydrogen peroxide for hair treatments.
Mixing acetone with peroxides can accidentally synthesize highly unstable, explosive organic peroxides (like acetone peroxide).

Keep acetone collection drums completely isolated from hair salon chemical waste streams.

Aerosols and Sharps

Many nail bars also require disposal of aerosol cans or cosmetic sharps (like dermaplaning blades( Used in a minimally invasive cosmetic exfoliation technique) or filler needles.
These must be separated into distinct streams—such as dedicated sharps bins  as opposed to mixing with your acetone waste product collection drums.

This tracks the waste from the salon to the vehicle transporting the waste (an "Upper Tier" Waste Carrier, Broker , or Dealer) to the final processing site (consigned facility).

Hazardous Waste Consignment Note Tracking
Legally, Beauty Salons and Nail Bars must keep their copies of these consignment notes for a minimum of 3 years.

As the Upper Tier Waste Carrier, RCS Recycling must also retain copies to maintain a clear chain of custody.

Digital Waste Tracking
Be aware that under UK environmental updates, receiving transfer stations and processing facilities that RCS Recycling deliver to require rigorous electronic logging of these codes, so that they can back track to the original source.

Recycling Contaminated Solids
Wipes, foil wraps, or cotton wool completely saturated in liquid acetone, must be captured under a hazardous clinical/chemical or mixed packaging code containing hazardous residues and can not be processed by standard municipal or dry mixed commercial recycling.
